Howdy from Oklahoma

Em hotep! My name is Johnny, but I also enjoy the moniker “Rehek-Wer” in Kemetic settings–chosen for my fondness of both fires and the cold and for the fact my January birthday always lands on the week of the Rekeh-Wer holiday. I’m a nonbinary man nearing 30 from the United States.

My experience with Kemeticism actually started when I was very young, but the earliest sign I remember was refusing to be baptized because I was terrified I’d “offend the gods,” even if I didn’t believe in Them until about 16. I did end up convert to another religion with no intention of re-converting, but returning to the Netjeru and the communities I’d spent much of my teenage and young adult life with does feel like visiting mom. If you’re curious, I spent a lot of time with Set, Ra, Ma’ahes, Shai, Khonsu, and Heru-Deshur (Horus the Red, aka the planet Mars).

Additionally, I’m working through higher ed as a Religious Studies scholar, so my interest here is academic as well as personal and spiritual. I believe that religion can be one of the truest expressions of the human condition and I love that. I also just like to learn

Thank you for having me!
