My name is Julie and I’m from the Denver area in Colorado, US. In spiritual practice I often go by S’atBastet. I am an Eclectic Pagan with a slight leaning towards Kemeticism brought on by my Matron Deity Bast/et. I was raised Christian but left it in my young adulthood and spent some years seeking higher truths. I studied many religions and practices and even ended up pretty much an atheist for a while but none fully sat right with me.
Over time I came to know Goddess Bastet who was calling to me and later I learned she had been pretty much my whole life. She has blessed me with two of her children to take care of and who also in some ways take care of me. Both of whom I found abandoned in circumstances that are quite unique. The second and younger one was after I already had been working with Bastet and the story behind that to me proved beyond any doubt Goddess Bastet is real and interacts with the world. Because on that day I had no plans to go outside as it was snowing but something in my heart kept telling me to and finally I did and then I heard meowing and when I looked towards the meowing which was coming from a dark hallway between apartments with no light, suddenly the lights flickered on for long enough for me to see a young cat trying to hide from the snow. To this day thinking of how the lights turned on just then brings shivers down my spine, but in a good way of just being amazed how the gods can very much interact with this world if they need to and the way I see it there really isn’t any other more reasonable explanation than Bastet was bringing me to find and rescue that poor baby. That was nearly two years ago now and she is happy and healthy to this day.
Also through Bastet I have gotten to know a little bit about other gods, both some Egyptian ones, but also some non-Egyptian ones. Sekhmet and Anpu were the first Netjer I met after Bastet but have also now worked some with Hathor, Aset, and Sutech as well as some smaller interactions with quite a few other Netjeru.
I wanted to learn more about this path and about Kemeticism so I can better my relationship and practices with my spiritual mother, Bastet, as well as other Netjeru. I am excited to learn more.
What a great story! Isn’t it striking how cats enter our lives? Your story reminds me of so many unexpected cat introductions - here is a very different vibe. I adopted my two current companions from a shelter - which I entered on a complete whim and walked through with no interest or agenda. Until that is, a small but fierce cat reached through a birdcage’s bars, grabbed the back of my shirt, and stared at me with the most possessive, certain, and confident look that I think I have ever seen from a meow. She, along with her brother, have been with me for twelve years now.
I’m in the Upper Midwest - and just visited Denver recently - your home is quite beautiful! I found the House of Netjer after I had an experience that I could not really understand - looking forward to the Beginners Class as a way of finding practice and developing a relationship with Netjeru. After the first lessons I am very excited to continue!
Awww I always love hearing stories about cats being adopted into good homes. Goddess Bastet definitely is very active that’s for sure. Yes I am excited to learn more too.
